On Stage

I was thrilled to be asked by the San Francisco Opera to design and produce a pair of custom leather sandals for the world premier of The Gospel of Mary Magdalen.

The Roman style sandals I crafted were made using only hand tools on oiled leather, and the leather soles were nailed to the upper using brass nails and no glue. The SF Opera was kind enough to provide ample research material so I could be as authentic as possible, while keeping in mind the comfort of the singer.

This is not the first time I have provided leather craft support to the theater. I assisted Jan Zvaifler and Central Works, a Berkeley-based company, with prop and costume modifications for their Richard the First trilogy.

I was elated to work with the SF Opera on this production.
